Sevagram Bapu Kuti Ashram

🏛️ Sevagram Ashram: The Village of ServiceEstablished in 1936 by Mahatma Gandhi, Sevagram Ashram (originally Segaon) served as the headquarters for India's freedom movement and rural upliftment. Unlike urban retreats, Gandhi chose to build this ashram right in the middle of a rural village to embody self-sufficiency, equality, and simplicity. Key Highlights within the Ashram: Bapu Kuti: Mahatma Gandhi’s personal residence, preserved just as he left it, featuring his modest sleeping cot, writing desk, and personal belongings. Ba Kuti: The simple dwelling of Kasturba Gandhi. Adi Nivas: The very first hut built in the ashram where Gandhi initially stayed. The Prayer Ground: An open-air ground where multi-faith morning and evening prayers continue to be held to this day. Gandhian Exhibition & Archives: A rich repository of photographs, rare manuscripts, and personal items—including the iconic telephone used during historic national deliberations.
